Hockey Club Lugano is pleased to announce that it has extended the contract of 28-year-old goalkeeper Niklas Schlegel until the end of the 2025/26 season.
Having arrived in Lugano during the 2019/20 season after winning the Swiss title with the ZSC Lions and a brief experience in Bern, Schlegel has played 104 games so far National League with the jersey bianconera.
His consistent performance has made him one of Switzerland's most reliable goalkeepers, and even in the current season, despite strong internal competition from a colleague of absolute international standing like Mikko Koskinen, Niklas has been able to confirm his value, earning the trust of the coaching staff on 18 occasions so far with an average of 2.74 goals conceded per game.
These are the words of GM Hnat Domenichelli:
"We are happy to have found a solution with Niklas for his future. He is a very important part of our team and we want to have him with us for the long term."
