Hockey Club Lugano announces that it has signed a contract valid for the 2023/24 season with forward (center-wing) Matthew Verboon, born in Richmond Hill (Ontario) on 23.02.2000 and holding both Swiss and Canadian passports.
Verboon (185 cm. x 89 kg., "left") grew up in the youth sector of Geneva Servette where he won both the U17 Elit and U20 Elit national titles.
After playing the 2018/19 season in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks jersey (55 games, 57 points), he played the last four seasons in the top U.S. college league (NCAA) under the colors of Colgate University in Hamilton (New York State) where he collected 31 goals and 48 assists in 127 games.
Verboon has been regularly selected for the Red Swiss youth national teams with whom he has participated in one U18 World Cup and two U20 World Cups.
