Hockey Club Lugano reports that it has signed Canadian forward John Quenneville on a contract valid until the end of the 2023/24 season.
Born on 4/16/1996 in Edmonton, the center-winger "left" (186 cm. x 88 kg.) made his name between 2012 and 2016 with the Brandon Wheat Kings jersey in the Western Hockey League (WHL) where he won a championship and collected a total haul of 256 points (112 goals and 144 assists) in 271 games. Top Prospect numbers that, by the way, opened the door in 2014 for him to be drafted in the first round and 30th overall by the New Jersey Devils.
Over the next four seasons Quenneville alternated between the NHL under the colors of the New Jersey Devils and Chicago Blackhawks (44 games) and the American Hockey League (AHL), where he played on the respective farm teams of the Albany Devils, Binghamton Devils and Rockford Ice Hogs (219 games, 162 points).
In the 2021/22 season Quenneville accepted his first European challenge, highlighting his qualities with the ZSC Lions, a club with which he played 48 games, scored 20 goals and provided 17 assists.
Instead, the last season saw him busy first in Sweden with the ambitious Leksands IF and later returning again to his homeland with the Belleville Senators (AHL).
Quenneville will arrive in Lugano in the coming days for the traditional medical examinations and, if the bureaucratic process allows, will be available to the coaching staff for the first games after the break dedicated to national teams.
These are the words of HCL General Manager Hnat Domenichelli:
"John is a performing player, an energetic forward who will also be able to help us in numerical superiority. He is 27 years old and has the advantage of knowing National League from having played there. We look forward to having him with us on the team."
