TheHockey Club Lugano announces that it has signed in these days a two-year contract (2024/2026) with Roberts Cjunskis, "left" forward (184 cm. x 88 kg.) of Latvian passport and Swiss field hockey license.
Born on 04/13/2003 in Marupe, not far from the capital Riga, Cjunskis left his homeland at the age of 13 to pursue a dream, inspired by the fairy tale of his compatriot Elvis Merzlikins and the example of his mother and father, elite sportsmen in handball.
Having thus landed in Lugano in 2016, Cjunskis has been able to integrate with determination and sacrifice and thanks also to the support of some foster families into the new linguistic and living environment, both at the school level, where he graduated from high school in 2022, and at the sports level.
In the Youth Section of the HCL Roberts has so far played 34 games in the Mini Top category, 97 games in the U17 Elit category and 143 games (111 points) in the U20 Elit category. Now for him, after 14 first team appearances, a new starting point with the signing of his first contract as a professional player.
Cjunskis played one U18 World Cup and one U20 World Cup with Latvia, also playing two games with the senior national team this season.
