TheHockey Club Lugano announces that it has signed experienced U.S. "right" defender Matt Tennyson, born 04/23/1990 in Minneapolis (188 cm x 93 kg), on a contract valid until the end of the 2023/24 season.
After winning an NCAA title in 2012 under the colors of Western Michigan University, Tennyson played a total of 173 games (29 points) in the NHL under the jerseys of the San Jose Sharks, Carolina Hurricanes, Buffalo Sabres, New Jersey Devils and Nashville Predators.
Most of Tennyson's career (469 games, 150 points) developed between 2012 and 2023 on the AHL stage where he exhibited his qualities as a defender with strong defensive skills with the Worcester Sharks, San Jose Barracuda, Charlotte Checkers, Rochester Americans, Binghamton Devils, Milwaukee Admirals and finally the Coachella Valley Firebirds.
If the paperwork goes through, Tennyson will be available to the coaching staff for training starting next week.
In the stars and stripes uniform of the U.S. National Team, Tennyson also won a bronze medal at the 2021 World Cup in Riga.
