The online auction of the jerseys worn by theHockey Club Lugano players at the victorious championship game on Jan. 20, 2024 at the Cornèr Arena against Bern turned out to be a success beyond the highest expectations.
In fact, the black jersey with pink features that had replaced the traditionally yellow ones worn on the ice by Calvin Thürkauf and his teammates generated a revenue of no less than 25,000 francs paid by the HCL to the Cancer League Ticino.
"As the female president of a men's sports team," saidHockey Club Lugano President Vicky Mantegazza proudly, "I was happy to support breast cancer prevention. Raising awareness about the importance of early detection is crucial because 90 percent of these cancers are curable and in most cases women find out they are sick through self-diagnosis."
"I would like to sincerely thank the HCL and all the people who contributed to this fundraiser," Alba Masullo, director of the Cancer League Ticino, echoed her. "We will use this money for information and prevention campaigns, counseling in cancer rehabilitation, and funding courses aimed at rehabilitation for those who have suffered from the disease.
The Cancer League Ticino Association has since 1936 aimed to help and support people with cancer and their families as well as to provide information aimed at prevention and promote research.
