The online auction of the jerseys worn by the Hockey Club Lugano players during the victorious championship game on January 20, 2024, at the Cornèr Arena against Bern turned out to be a success beyond the most optimistic expectations.

The black jersey with pink accents, which for the occasion had replaced the traditionally yellow ones, worn on the ice by Calvin Thürkauf and his teammates, generated a revenue of 25,000 francs, donated by HCL to the Ticino Cancer League.

"As a female president of a men's sports team," proudly stated Hockey Club Lugano President Vicky Mantegazza, "I was happy to support breast cancer prevention. Raising awareness about the importance of early diagnosis is crucial because 90% of these cancers are curable, and in most cases, women discover they are ill through self-diagnosis."

"I would like to sincerely thank HCL and all the people who contributed to this fundraising," echoed Alba Masullo, Director of the Ticino Cancer League, "we will use this money for information and prevention campaigns, oncology rehabilitation counseling, and funding rehabilitation courses for those who have suffered from the disease."

Since 1936, the Ticino Cancer League association has aimed to help and support people who fall ill with cancer and their families, as well as provide information aimed at prevention and promote research.
