Hockey Club Lugano announces that it has signed a contract for the next five seasons (2024/2029) with right-shot defenseman David Aebischer (180 cm, 83 kg), born on 26.09.2000 in Heitenried (Canton Fribourg).

Raised in the youth sector of Fribourg, where at seventeen during the 2017/18 season he was the best defenseman in the U20 Elite league for points (40), Aebischer then experienced North American junior leagues, playing for two seasons (107 games, 11 goals, 52 assists) with the Gatineau Olympiques (QMJHL).

After returning to Switzerland, he played the first part of the 2020/21 season with the Burgundians before joining Ajoie, helping them win the Swiss League and secure promotion to the National League.

Since 2021, Aebischer has worn the colors of the Lakers, where he has gradually established himself as a key player on the team, as evidenced by his average ice time: 19:35 last season and 20:41 in the current season, making him the player with the most ice time on the St. Gallen team.

With the Swiss national team, Aebischer has competed in two U20 World Championships and took to the ice seven times last year under the guidance of Patrick Fischer.

These are the words of Hnat Domenichelli, General Manager of HCL:

“David is a leading defenseman among players of his birth year. We believe he can become a top defenseman in our league for many years. His profile perfectly matches what our coach Luca Gianinazzi desires for building the Lugano of the future.”
