Hockey Club Lugano announces that it has signed the experienced American "right" defenseman Matt Tennyson, born on April 23, 1990, in Minneapolis (188 cm x 93 kg), with a contract valid until the end of the 2023/24 season.

After winning the NCAA title in 2012 with the colors of Western Michigan University, Tennyson played a total of 173 games (29 points) in the NHL with the San Jose Sharks, Carolina Hurricanes, Buffalo Sabres, New Jersey Devils, and Nashville Predators.

Most of Tennyson's career (469 games, 150 points) developed between 2012 and 2023 on the AHL stage, where he showcased his qualities as a defenseman with strong defensive skills with the Worcester Sharks, San Jose Barracuda, Charlotte Checkers, Rochester Americans, Binghamton Devils, Milwaukee Admirals, and finally the Coachella Valley Firebirds.

If the bureaucratic process goes smoothly, Tennyson will be available to the coaching staff for training starting next week.

With the stars and stripes of the U.S. National Team, Tennyson also won the bronze medal at the 2021 World Championships in Riga.

These are the words of HCL General Manager Hnat Domenichelli:

"We decided to sign Matt to be covered in case of injury and to add depth to the roster for the final phase of the season. Matt is an experienced and strong defensive player who, if necessary, can help us in the playoffs."
