Hockey Club Lugano and the 25-year-old Swiss-licensed defenseman Jesper Peltonen have signed a contract renewal in recent days, extending the agreement that was set to expire in 2025 until the end of the 2027/28 season.
After growing up in the youth sector of IFK Helsinki, Jesper embraced the North American adventure, playing four seasons in the top U.S. collegiate championship (NCAA) with the University of Wisconsin.
After a first professional season in Switzerland with Kloten, Peltonen arrived at the Cornèr Arena last summer.
In these first six months with the black-and-white jersey, he has fully confirmed his qualities as a defenseman with excellent skating, a strong work ethic, and good growth potential, being fielded by the technical staff for an average of nearly 18 minutes per game with a current +/- statistic of +11, the fifth-best on the team.
These are the words of HCL General Manager Hnat Domenichelli:
"Jesper is one of our best players in the defensive phase. He has leadership qualities and will be an important element for our future. We are happy to have quickly found a solution with him to extend his contract long-term."
