HCL looks to the future

The Board of Directors of Hockey Club Lugano SA has recently outlined the desired profile and, after a thorough selection process of the most qualified candidates, has identified the club’s new General Manager.

According to the club's organizational structure, the General Manager will be responsible for the sporting strategy of Hockey Club Lugano, with a clear goal of ensuring long-term alignment of sports objectives. The GM will also work closely with the management of the Youth Section.

The role of the General Manager will also be operational, encompassing the selection and management of personnel related to the first team, including players, coaching staff, support staff, and scouting.

The Board of Directors has chosen Janick Steinmann, born in Baar, married, and father of two daughters.

The 38-year-old stood out among the other candidates thanks to his experience as a former National League player (over 500 games), scout, and coach for the EVZ Academy, as well as his last six seasons as General Manager of the Rapperswil Lakers.

With the St. Gallen-based club, the new HCL GM demonstrated technical expertise, personality, and the ability to optimize financial resources, achieving good results, including a third and fourth place in the regular season, a playoff semifinal qualification, and two Champions Hockey League qualifications.

His energy and strong determination, combined with solid coaching and management knowledge and an extensive network of national and international contacts, proved to be his strengths.

Here are Janick Steinmann’s first words as an HCL member:
"I am happy, honored, and very motivated to work for Hockey Club Lugano. It is an exciting challenge and an important step in my professional growth. The club is going through a difficult season. For this reason, my first task will be to get to know everyone within the organization to gain a more complete understanding."

Steinmann has signed an open-ended contract with Hockey Club Lugano and will soon begin his work in Lugano. He will be available to the media starting at the end of the 2024/25 sports season.
