Creative, at times brilliant, a true spectacle for the eyes.
But at the same time, effective and decisive, capable at any moment of the game of inventing a goal, an assist, or a play that changes the outcome of the game.
This is the essence of Michael Joly that hockey fans have been able to admire in his first twenty-eight games in the National League. And the wish of all black-and-white fans to prolong this wonder over time has come true in these days leading up to Christmas.
Hockey Club Lugano and Michael Joly have renewed the contract expiring at the end of the current championship for another two seasons with an option for a third season. The twenty-eight-year-old Canadian forward, who grew up in Quebec, will therefore wear the black-and-white jersey at least until 2026.
After an initial part of his career in junior leagues and North American minors - with the conquest of the QMJHL title in 2015 with the Rimouski Océanic and the ECHL in 2018 with the Colorado Eagles - Joly made a name for himself in the Finnish Liiga between 2021 and 2023 with 48 goals and 68 assists in 120 games with the HPK Hämeenlinna jersey.
Then this summer came the bet of Hockey Club Lugano, which also relied on him to rejuvenate its offensive potential, hitting the target. Michael is currently with 28 points in 28 games the fifth top scorer in the National League and, tied with captain Thürkauf, boasts the best +/- statistic on the team with +16.
These are the words of Hockey Club Lugano General Manager Hnat Domenichelli:
"Michael is a player with outstanding offensive qualities who will play an important role in the Lugano of the future. We are very happy to have reached an agreement with him for the coming seasons."
