Hockey Club Lugano announces the signing of a contract for the 2023/24 season with forward (center-wing) Matthew Verboon, born in Richmond Hill, Ontario, on February 23, 2000, holding both Swiss and Canadian passports.
Verboon (185 cm, 89 kg, "left") developed in the youth system of Genève-Servette, where he won both the U17 Elite and U20 Elite national titles.
After playing the 2018/19 season in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks (55 games, 57 points), he spent the last four seasons in the top U.S. college league (NCAA) with Colgate University in Hamilton, New York, where he recorded 31 goals and 48 assists in 127 games.
Verboon has been regularly selected for the Swiss junior national teams, participating in one U18 World Championship and two U20 World Championships.
