Hockey Club Lugano announces the signing of forward Michael Joly, born on May 5, 1995, in Gatineau, Quebec, for the 2023/24 season.

After developing in the youth system of his hometown, Joly (180 cm x 79 kg, "left") played from 2012 to 2016 in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), where he participated in 268 games, totaling 285 points, and in 2015 won the title of this important Canadian junior league with Rimouski Océanic.

Joly's offensive skills continued to emerge in the subsequent stages of his career when, between 2016 and 2021, he alternated between periods in the American Hockey League (137 games, 69 points with the Hartford Wolf Pack, San Antonio Rampage, and Colorado Eagles) and periods in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL), where he collected 148 games and 177 points.

In the 2017/2018 season in the ECHL, Joly was the player who scored the most goals and was the MVP of the playoffs, leading the Colorado Eagles to win the Kelly Cup Championship.

HPK Hämeenlinna, a Finnish Liiga club where he played for the last two seasons, then took notice of him. He tallied 48 goals and 68 assists in 120 games.

Although he was a standout on a team that did not qualify for the Post Season, Joly notably finished first in the 2022/23 Liiga scoring chart with 64 points (25 goals, 39 assists) in 60 games.

Now, he faces a new challenge in the National League.

These are the words of Hnat Domenichelli, General Manager of HCL, on the sixth foreign player currently under contract with Hockey Club Lugano:
"Michael is an offensive right-winger capable of bringing energy and speed. We can't wait to see him on the ice in the Bianconeri colors."
