Hockey Club Lugano announces the signing of Czech center "left" Radim Zohorna (198 cm x 104 kg) with a contract valid for the next season (2024/2025).

Born on 29.04.1996 in Havlickuv Brod, Zohorna trained in the youth sector of the local team before moving to Kometa Brno, where he debuted at eighteen in the Czech Republic's top league.

After six seasons in the Extraliga (194 games, 77 points) garnished with two national titles with Kometa Brno (2017, 2018), Zohorna signed a two-way contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2020 without previously being drafted and debuted in the NHL on 25.03.2021 with a goal on his first shot. In the next two seasons, Zohorna alternated between Pittsburgh and the AHL with the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins farm team. This pattern essentially repeated between 2022 and 2024 after signing further two-way contracts with the Calgary Flames and the Toronto Maple Leafs. Finally, he returned to Pittsburgh, where he played 33 games last season. Overall, Zohorna has played 68 games in the NHL (18 points) and 135 in the AHL (102 points). In 2023, he participated in the World Championships in Riga and Tampere with the Czech Republic jersey.

At the same time, Hockey Club Lugano announces that it has reached an agreement with forward Arttu Ruotsalainen for the consensual termination of the contract valid until the end of the 2024/25 season. The 26-year-old Finn played 51 games with HCL last season, scoring 7 goals and 9 assists.

These are the words of General Manager Hnat Domenichelli:

"In recent weeks, we have conducted an in-depth analysis of the players available for the next championship together with the technical staff. Radim is a two-way center who combines physical strength and technical quality. With his arrival, we can count on another center that the staff can use in any game situation. We have concluded that, for the growth of the team, it is important to rely on a forward profile with technical and physical characteristics different from Arttu's. We have worked with him to find a solution for his future. I want to thank him very much for his seriousness and professionalism and to wish him all the best for his career."
