Hockey Club Lugano is pleased to announce that it has extended the contract of 28-year-old goaltender Niklas Schlegel until the end of the 2025/26 season.
Schlegel joined Lugano during the 2019/20 season after winning the Swiss championship with the ZSC Lions and a brief stint in Bern. So far, he has played 104 National League games in the Bianconeri jersey.
His consistent performance has made him one of the most reliable Swiss goaltenders, and even in the current season, despite strong internal competition from an internationally renowned colleague like Mikko Koskinen, Niklas has managed to confirm his value, earning the trust of the coaching staff in 18 appearances so far with an average of 2.74 goals conceded per game.
These are the words of GM Hnat Domenichelli: "We are happy to have found a solution with Niklas for his future. He is a very important part of our team, and we want to have him with us in the long term."
