Lorenzo Canonica will play in the black-and-white colors for at least two more seasons. The 21-year-old forward (181 cm x 87 kg) recently signed a contract extension, now valid until the end of the 2026/27 season.
After announcing the return of defenseman Brian Zanetti (until 2028) and the Swiss National Team forward and two-time Swiss champion Dario Simion (until 2031), HCL proudly extends the future of a third homegrown player who gained valuable experience abroad and is now ready to bring the best of his career to the Cornèr Arena.
Making his debut with the first team at just sixteen on November 2, 2019, and twice participating in the U20 World Championships with the Swiss team (2021, 2023), Canonica played 159 games with the Shawinigan Cataractes (QMJHL) from 2020 to 2023, accumulating 44 goals and 77 assists and reaching the final stages for the Memorial Cup.
After recovering from a wrist injury that impacted last season, Lorenzo has appeared in all seventeen games this year, averaging more than ten minutes of ice time per game.
These are the words of General Manager Hnat Domenichelli: “Lorenzo is developing into a solid National League player capable of playing in any situation. We are confident he will continue to grow and play an increasingly important role in the future of Lugano. We are very pleased to extend his contract for the next two seasons.”
Lorenzo Canonica expressed his joy as follows: “I am very happy to continue wearing the Hockey Club Lugano jersey and to grow more within this team. I will always give my best to wear our colors with pride.
