He arrived this summer after playing the last four seasons in the top U.S. college league (NCAA), and just about twenty National League games were enough to appreciate his qualities at a professional level.

Hockey Club Lugano and forward Matthew Verboon have already extended their contract, which was set to expire in April, until the end of the 2025/26 season.

Raised in the youth sector of Genève-Servette, regularly selected for the Swiss youth national teams with which he played in one U18 World Championship and two U20 World Championships, Matthew Verboon (186 cm, 89 kg) has perfectly integrated into the Bianconeri environment over these past few months.

With an average ice time of nearly fourteen minutes per game and being used in every game situation, proving his versatility, the 23-year-old born in Ontario, who holds both Swiss and Canadian passports, has demonstrated important technical, athletic, and character traits, quickly earning the trust of the coaching staff and teammates.

Now, for him, an early two-year contract renewal, paving the way for a promising journey together.

These are the words of General Manager Hnat Domenichelli: "We are very pleased to have extended Matthew's contract for the next two seasons. He has quickly found his place within the team and the group, and we are happy to count on him for the future."
